One Kemble Street - London, England
In the shadow of the imposing Freemasons’ Hall and the bustling shopping district of Covent Garden stands One Kemble Street, designed by George Marsh, the architect behind the nearby Centre Point. Its distinctive circular form and deep inset windows between cruciform blocks give the building a futuristic, almost sci-fi quality, earning it the nickname "Space House." At certain times of day, pockets of light break through the dense cityscape, catching the rough concrete surfaces and briefly animating the building’s heavy form. Yet despite these fleeting moments, the structure often feels eclipsed by its lively surroundings, where vibrant street life dominates.
Space House remains somewhat isolated and overlooked, a relic of a different era caught between the glory of the past and the relentless energy of the present.
