While citizens in the UK practice social distancing... a scene is created with new characters, behaviours and backstories.

This year, Ramadan is different. Congregational acts of worship outside the home is unlikely due to social distancing, no Taraweeh prayers at the mosque and no Iftar with friends and family either. The lockdown measures means that planning is in place to prepare for Iftar menus. While Muslims all over the world are adapting to a more lonely Ramadan, the community presence is still there.

Most days I wake up later than usual. I really shouldn’t feel bad.

A change in routine due to the lockdown left me exhausted with lack of sleep. I wake up at least 5 times a night in the past week, struggling to shut my eyes and when I do, I experience stark and vivid dreams.
Communication has been key ever since the lockdown, with constant video calls to loved ones and virtual movie nights with friends. Reconnecting with old friends that I haven't spoke to in years has been one silver lining.

Last night I dreamt of the ocean. I long for the day to be by the sea again, a place where I married her.

Social distancing is the right approach for this pandemic but I realise now that I took human interaction for granted.
